How to measure windows before buying curtains?

Adding curtains to your windows can enhance your home interiors to a greater extent. Before buying curtains, a few things need to be noted such as length and width of the fabric needed, fabric type, functionality and type of fabric with its quality.

The length and width of the curtain are the most important factor in choosing the perfect curtain for your spaces. For that, you need to measure your window dimensions. This part looks a little bit tricky, but some valued guidelines can help you through the process. Once finished with window measurement, you can check out our curtain fabric collections and other supplies from our store Al Kilani Fabrics.

Measuring window width

For measuring the width of the window, we need to take three measurements. One from the top, middle and the bottom for the real and accurate measurements. The important key point is that you are not going to purchase enough curtains just to cover the width of the window. For a full or very full appearance, we need to purchase curtain materials either double or triple of the width measurement.

To measure the width of the window, you have to measure from the left curtain rod bracket to the right curtain rod bracket. To make sure, you can choose the widest measurement as the finalized one. Then double the number that is the total width you will need to cover your window. This makes sure the fullness and rich coverage while opening and closing of the window.

Pro tip: The common rule is that it takes two to three times more drapery/curtain fabric to provide the complete fullness in appearance when hung on rod.

Measuring window length

The length is directly proportional to the look you prefer like a curtain to just brush the floor or to fall at the still or puddle at the floor. You can measure from the drapery rod to the window sill, to a little below the sill, or all the way to the floor. In case if you are measuring to the floor, you can add a few inches to your measurements for your curtains to gracefully drape on the floor.

The length measurement of the window varies from

Ø  Drapery rod to window still

Ø  Drapery rod to little below window still

Ø  Drapery rod to the floor

Ø  Drapery rod to the floor and little below few inches.

In case, if you are adding hardware like drapery rings to hang your curtains then measure the length from the ring rather than the rod. Similar to width measurement, you should measure the length from three places called down the middle, down the right and down the left. To confirm, choose the longest noted measurement as the length of the window.

If you have chosen puddle type then add 1”-4” to the length of your measurements. Then if your draperies are frequently opened or closed, you can subtract ½” for floor clearance, to avoid dragging and wear and tear.

Pro tip: Keep in mind the type of hardware that you are integrating your curtains with that can alter the length and look to a greater extent. Hence take them into account while making the length measurement.

Measuring Rod

For mounting the drapery rod, add few inches to the measurement of the window frame for your drapery rod can span the window width. In case if you are adding rod finals then take that into account for the accurate measurement process.

Tools needed

1.    Measuring tape

2.    Ladder or step stool

3.    Pencil

4.    Paper

Style factors

There are some common style guidelines you should keep in mind before making your curtain fabric purchase. You can choose between the single or double drapery panel options. Since each one has its own benefits and looks. The single drapery is suitable for corner windows and the drapery makes a good option for layered and sheer fabric curtains.

Keeping these measurements and tools in handy can help you get the perfect measurement to choose the perfect curtains for your home interiors.

Tips to choose and use the curtains effectively

Fabric is an essential part of choosing curtains, as the material will determine how well the curtains are functioning and how well they will hold up over time.
And note that over time, sunlight can fade fabrics. If the space in-home or office is getting a lot of light, avoiding bright colours is wise, because they appear to fade faster. Various headings on the curtain establish distinctive looks. A pencil pleat is the most common style but a pinched pleat works well for a more detailed formal finish. Instead, try a cottage pleat or tie-tops for an informal effect.

Wisely select fabrics – cotton and linen are of good quality and fit the majority of rooms. Heavyweight velvets, such as bedrooms or living areas, have an opulent look and match period homes and certain spaces. Evite the use of silk in humid conditions because it can rot.

When choosing a patterned fabric, make sure that the curtains are both open and closed will look good. Also bear in mind that strong colours, particularly in a bright south-facing space, will fade in the sun.

The use of stylish tie-backs to match and add a pelmet can give your windows a more traditional look. Also calculate the amount of material needed for curtains with care, using a measure of steel tape. Allow enough fabric to overlap slightly when closed and be the right length for your scheme-curtains that sit in line with the floor may look more modern and tidy, but you may prefer a longer, 'pooled' effect.

Choose a curtain rod, clip or tracking system that fits your home or office style. Also check out the latest collections of home fabrics to get better ideas.

How to clean the sofa Upholstery fabric

It can be easy to forget about washing up the upholstery before a spillage occurs or a stain mysteriously emerges. But given how much it is used, and how much secret dirt and dust builds up on your sofas and armchairs, freshening them up now and then is necessary.
Begin by removing throws and cushions, and checking back and forth for any loose changes, candy wrappers, etc. Install the upholstery attachment onto your vacuum cleaner for cloth sofas. To stop scratching it using the brush attachment on leather upholstery. Slowly suck up all the crumbs and dirt that have accumulated on the surface, using slow sweeping motion. Switch over to the crevice tool to get anything from the edges your fingers couldn’t reach, as well as cleaning the seams. Repeat on the cushions.

If your upholstery still has its label or a sticker attached to the underside, check it first before using any cleaning products. W indicates that a water-based cleaner can be used. S or P means it can only be washed (dry-clean only) with solvents. SW or WS means you can use either a solvent cleaner or a water-based detergent. A steam cleaner would also be good to use. Lastly, X means you can't use any water or detergent on the surface-then has it washed professionally.
In most forms of upholstery white vinegar is a perfect natural stain remover. Begin by blotting the stain with a water and vinegar solution in equal parts, then gently wipe the stain away using a microfiber cloth (only use a fresh cloth to make sure it is absolutely clean). Replace this with a combination of mild detergent and tepid water to eliminate the residual traces of vinegar. Naturally, allow it to dry.

Curtains with the right color and designs add a perfect touch of elegance to any room. By exuding warmth and shade, curtains give a soft touch to transform any space to a personal comfort zone.

By blending creativity with quality, Al Kilani's curtain collections offer unique styles with all types of fabrics such as velvet, lace, linen, cotton silk and more

Why are blinds the best form of window coverings?

Making sure your windows have window coverings is very necessary, keeping your family safe and free from danger by doing so. There are other instances or circumstances that will show that they do need window coverings. The window in our houses is like a human's eyes, if it's open everybody will see what's wrong inside the home. Finding an open window is an asset for someone who tries to break in only to grab a few items.

And it may be one of your corporate competitors spying on you, seeking to know your marketing strategy and attempting to undermine and steal it. Note that competitors or rivals cannot be taken lightly, because they would do whatever they may to see you fail or even fail.

The door, blinds and shutters are three types of window coverings. The curtains are inexpensive or very affordable but they can quickly be tattered and destroyed, it will be tough to clean them so it takes a long time to wash them twice a week to keep them clean. The shutters are the most costly type of window coverings, they are easier to clean than the curtains as all you have to do is to brush off the dust, but much like the curtains, shutters can also be easily destroyed due to their complex construction and if broken, it will be difficult to repair. That's why there's the perfect window cover, the blinds, they're neither cheap nor costly, and it's easy to preserve their cleanliness because they're the same thing as the shutters. These aren't easily broken because pieces like the shutters aren't complex because they aren't as inexpensive like the curtains.

There are various kinds of blinds made from different materials, and it is up to you to pick what. You can regulate how much light you like to fill your space by using the blinds and you can do that easily by closing or opening the blinds.

Blinds are usually placed in a bedroom or living room, but it doesn't matter as they can be put in your house anytime. Blinds are really helpful to anyone who is easily disturbed by noisy sounds coming from the other house or the neighbours, much like controlling the amount of light, you can still control their voices, you can only close the blinds and you can enjoy the quiet feeling you expected.

Blinds can enhance your home's appeal and elegance; they can also improve your home valuation, which is a positive thing if you want to sell the house. If you put the blinds make sure it's the final location and if you're trying to change their location, it's going to be hard.

What is the best way to clean the roller blinds?

It is important to check the cleaning directions for your person blind before you get started. As with clothing, roller blinds typically have a small tag that details the instructions for cleaning. If you do not have this blind, you can need to use your best judgment, decide what your blind is made of, and then investigate how to clean this type of material.
If your blind is made of PVC, plastic or vinyl, it may be able to withstand water and clean chemicals, while it may take more care if it is made of another material. If the blind can't be washed then it'll just need to be cleaned spot to avoid visible stains and we wouldn't suggest taking the following advice. If you can wash your blind then the below strategies are relatively simple and easy to follow.’
Occasionally, usually every 6-12 months, you may want to give your blind a more thorough clean. This is because spot cleaning a blind will only clean the fabric, and there are other parts to the blind, including the head rail and cord mechanism, which will attract dust, dirt, and grime too. To do this you will need to remove the blind from its brackets, take it down and go through the following steps.
Any metal elements may rust or seize up if they become wet, plus sometimes the fabric is wound around cardboard tubes. So before, proceeding you will need to remove the fabric from the mechanism and surrounding rails.

Once the blind is loose from the bracket and bars, open it entirely and lay it flat on a clean floor afterward. To dislodge any bits of dirt, dust or dead insects, add a brush attachment to your vacuum and clean the blind. When you have done you will turn the blind over and repeat this cycle with the blind back. Alternatively, if you don't have a brush attachment you could use a microfiber cloth (which will prevent dust from collecting) or go for an old sock's DIY option.

You'll then have to apply warm water to your bath until it's half full. Apply paste or liquid to the next water for drying, and if the blind is white you may also choose to apply a cap full of bleach. Then you can submerge your blind into the shower, enabling them to soak up for a few hours. It is a good time to clean the head rail and the bottom rail while you wait. You shouldn't get these wet as mentioned above but you can dust with a duster or lint free cloth between small crevices.

You may also want to use this opportunity to oil any moving metal parts-this will ensure that they will run much longer smoothly. For this, WD40 is suitable and will only spray onto any moving cogs etc. You should return to your blind fabric after two hours and give it a gentle cleaning to ensure that loose dirt has been removed and is not congealed on the blind.

The soapy water can then be drained from the tub and replaced with clean water. It is done to ensure that the blind does not have detergent stains, because if it is not fully cleaned until drying, then it will leave smears or stains on the blind. Repeat this process several times, if necessary, until the suds are fully removed. Then you're able to remove the blind from the bath and put it on a drying rack until it's fully dry. You may want to use a lint-free cloth before hanging out to dry to remove excess water, this will save you from dripping water throughout the house while moving the wet blind.

Tips to choose the upholsteries effectively

The importance of durability of the fabric varies depending on the piece of furniture, which room it is used in and the family's personal aspects, such as whether children and pets live in the house. These issues should be expressed in your fabric collection.
A traditional fabric for example is a go-to alternative for a traditional-style frame. That said, if you have an adventurous sense of style and know-how to combine two styles that seem to be incompatible, go for it. This approach adds the room to its originality.

Make sure that your choice of colour is one with which you can live happily for a long time. For example, it might be better for a smaller room to avoid a very bold colour, particularly if your sofa is also big. Neutrals are typically the safest route, because they appear to fulfil themselves over time.
Remember the colour temperature, to create the right mood. Warm and cool colours affect the room's mood and that aspect should be included in the decision. If you don't like them, stop trendy shades. Long before the sofa or chair needs to heal, they will look dated.
Vacuuming once a month is a must, because dust and debris mixed with friction from using the furniture breaks down the fabric, to prolong the life of the upholstery. Washable fabrics are also a much sought-after alternative, as they come with cleaning codes when purchasing on their labels.
Choosing the right upholstery for your furniture is more than just a colour pick. You can collect upholstery swatches with this fool proof guide in hand that will not only suit your specifications but also reflect your personality, leaving you happy at the end of the day.
